Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

Every bride wants stunning flowers at her wedding, it’s the part that everyone remembers. An experienced florist can translate your wedding theme into bouquets and floral arrangements to surpass your imagination and expectation. They can also advise about which alternative seasonal flowers are available to help keep costs down without compromising your dream. A talented florist will even create bespoke floral designs using the suggested blooms, just for you.

It is the wedding flowers that bring your whole event together, creating your picture-perfect look for your big day.

Let the florist know if you have a theme

You are now ready to consider what flowers you will need until you have made that decision.  It is worth thinking about this before you go to a florist, but they will be able to make suggestions of flowers and plant materials that you haven’t already thought of. They will know what flowers are available at the time of your that you are having your wedding, and the cost of the stems at that time. Especially if they have dressed the venue before for a wedding or special event. E.G. We had a Hard Rock Café wedding that we suggested adding feathers to the designs to incorporate black. The couple then added a few more black and white feathers to the tiers on their cake and sprinkled on them on the table.

How many flowers do you think that you will need approximately?

You will need flowers for the bridal party and both the ceremony and reception venues. where you choose your venue may have narrowed this down a little, so if you choose to have the ceremony in a rose garden in the height of summer, you are unlikely to need flowers for the ceremony, however, if you decide to make an aisle for the ceremony, of an arrangement on top of a modern pedestal, these may be transferred on to the reception tables.

What is your preferred colour palette?

This one is a bit of a chicken and an egg type decision… and can be approached in one of two ways. Deciding on an overall colour theme and choosing bridesmaids dresses, venue décor and flowers to fit or deciding on the venue and what colour flowers will enhance it and then choosing bridesmaids’  dresses to fit. This way you avoid unplanned clashing.

A trained, experienced florist will be able to make suggestions of a variety of flowers in your colour palette and will know what needs to be done to the flowers to ensure that they hold up for the full day in the height of summer.

At Make Their Day, we will help you by creating a mood board so that you can see the flowers that you choose in your colour palette to see how these colours and flowers will go together.

Do you have a favourite flower e.g. Tulips or have preferred flower choices e.g. Spring flowers?

Your florist will be able to incorporate them in you designs. you don’t need to know the names of flowers, a picture of what you like is enough! Your florist will know what it is called; what alternative shades are available and what colours will compliment it.

Flowers are naturally seasonal. E.g Tulips come out in the spring; sunflowers normally flower in the late summer or autumn. However, seasons can be possible out of season, but you will need to be prepared that the cost of them are likely to be more expensive, especially if they have had to be flown halfway round the world for your special day.
